The Rails Across Europe series is split into two volumes, one focusing on the North and West, the other on the South and East. David Cable, a renowned photographer of global train albums, captured most of the images, with a few contributions from friends. The books showcase modern locomotives and multiple units from the 1980s to present, displaying diverse classes and evolving color schemes. Photographed at stations and in rural areas, the volumes offer a wide range of locations. The first volume covers Scandinavia, the Baltics, Germany, Poland, the Benelux countries, the UK, and Ireland. The second volume explores France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, and many Central and Balkan countries formerly part of the Soviet Eastern Bloc.
